Rooney to play against Switzerland

In spite of the rumors and allegations about his private life published in a UK newspaper, Wayne Rooney travelled to Basel and has great chances of playing against Switzerland in the European Championship qualifier on Tuesday. In fact, England manager Fabio Capello has said the soccer player is ready to start against Switzerland.

“He will be in a good situation tomorrow because I hope the performance of Rooney will be the same that I saw in Wembley,” Fabio Capello said during a press conference. “I spoke with him and he is happy to play.” On the other hand, Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said he thinks personal issues will affect the player.

“I'm no psychologist but, of course, such a thing like that will weigh on a player,” Hitzfeld commented. "But I expect Capello will let Wayne Rooney play because he's in great condition at the moment and a coach isn't going to pass on a player of his calibre.” Although Rooney has not been able to score in an international match in a year, he showed good form last Friday in England’s victory in the soccer match against Bulgaria.

The England soccer team is 5/6 favorites to win with Switzerland 3/1 and the draw at 11/5. On the other hand, no Switzerland striker has scored in 11 games, since last Sept. 9 when Alex Frei and Eren Derdiyok tallied during a 2-2 draw in a World Cup qualifier in Latvia. Rooney and Jermain Defoe are favorites to score against the Swiss.
